Importance of Dashboards and Digital Signage
Dashboards are a useful canvas for displaying visualizations of important data in a single location. In a workplace environment, access to accurate information is crucial. Dashboards serve as a vital resource for teams, and displaying them on digital signage significantly enhances their effectiveness. Here are some key benefits of this approach:
- Real-time Data Sharing: Showing dashboards on digital screens helps monitor live KPIs and important data. This allows for quick decision-making. This capability enables teams to work more efficiently and respond quickly to changing circumstances.
- Employee Motivation: Visible KPIs can motivate employees to excel in their roles. Recognizing achievements in real time fosters a sense of appreciation and encourages teams to strive for excellence.
- Centralized Control: ServiceNow allows for easy management and customization of dashboards. Updates appear smoothly on digital screens, so employees always have the latest information.
How to Display ServiceNow on Your Digital Screens
To show ServiceNow dashboards in the workplace, you can use OptiSigns digital signage software. Among our 160+ app integrations, our Web Scripting app is a pivotal tool in putting your KPIs on digital signage. This app lets you automate navigation and form entries without needing coding skills. Forget having to log in every single time! Three steps exist to start displaying your dashboard on digital signage displays with OptiSigns:
- Install Burp Suite Navigation Recorder
- Record Your Script
- (Optional) Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication
- Create and Push Your Web Scripting App
Once you finish, OptiSigns will display your dashboard for everyone to see without requiring you to log in each time!
Below, we’ll walk you through each step in more detail.
Install Burp Suite Navigation Recorder
Open Chrome, then go to the Chrome Web Store and search for “Burp Suite Navigation Recorder”. Click “Add to Chrome" to gain access to the extension.
Once added, open the extension’s settings, enable “Allow in Incognito,” and close the tab.
(Optional) Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication
If you haven't set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) yet, please contact your account admin to enable it. Once you enable MFA, the system will prompt you to set it up the next time you log in. You’ll have the option to either set it up or postpone it. Choose “Setup Authenticator App” to begin the process.
While you can use any authenticator app you prefer, we used Google Authenticator.
After selecting “Setup authenticator app”, ServiceNow will display a list of steps, along with a QR code for pairing your device. Do not immediately scan the QR code. Below the QR code is a secret key (a long alphanumeric string). Copy and save this code somewhere secure; it’s important for setting up web scripting within OptiSigns.
Now, open your authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed. Enter the 6-digit verification code shown on your authenticator to pair your device.
When recording your script, following the steps below, please save the 6-digit verification code you type in. This is important for the web scripting process.
Record Your Script
For OptiSigns to be able to display your dashboard, we will need to first record the steps needed to get the dashboard. This includes inputting the direct URL to your dashboard, username and password.
First, copy the URL of your dashboard web page and have it waiting in your clipboard.
Next, open the Burp Suite Navigation Recorder extension from your extension manager, and click “Start Recording”. This will open an incognito window.
When the window opens, paste the URL to your ServiceNow dashboard in the address bar at the top. Fill out your login information, making sure you enter it carefully and correctly. If you mess up, you will need to restart the recording process.
Tip: Always use the mouse for clicks and avoid corrections during entry.
Once you log in and the dashboard displays, either close the window or open the Burp Suite extension and click “Stop Recording.”
Burp Suite will automatically copy the script to your clipboard once you close the incognito window. However, you can also open the extension and select “Copy to Clipboard.”
Create a Web Scripting Asset in OptiSigns
Log in to your OptiSigns account and open the Files/Assets page to create your asset. Click on "Apps" and search for the “Web Scripting” app within our list of 160+ app integrations.
Open this app and paste your script into the “Recorded Script” box.
If you set up MFA, copy the 24-character setup key that you saved during the QR code setup process. You will paste this code in the “Secret 2FA” section. Then, paste the 6-digit code from your authenticator app that you used during the scripting process into the “Recorded 2FA Code” box.
Finally, after you click save, you can push your dashboard to your screens in your office, breakrooms, hallways, and more!
